British actor Prunella Scales, best known for playing Sybil Fawlty in the classic comedy Fawlty Towers has died peacefully at her London home aged 93.
Her sons, Samuel and Joseph, said she passed away on Monday, watching her beloved show the day before.
Married to fellow actor Timothy West for 61 years until his death in 2024, Scales enjoyed a remarkable seven-decade career spanning theatre, film, and television. Beyond Fawlty Towers she earned a BAFTA nomination for portraying Queen Elizabeth II in A Question of Attribution and charmed audiences in After Henry and Mapp and Lucia. Diagnosed with dementia in 2013, Scales continued appearing alongside West in Great Canal Journeys until 2019. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
