New Zealand’s Mataaho collective, comprising four women, has won the prestigious Golden Lion award at the 60th Venice Biennale.
Their large-scale work Takapau crafted from woven hi-vis tie-downs, serves as a gateway to the exhibition.
The installation was praised for its ‘cosmological and sheltering symbolism’, and represents a ‘matrilinear tradition’.
