Sir Ian McKellen hospitalised after dramatic fall during West End performance

During a performance of “Player Kings” at London’s Noël Coward Theatre, Sir Ian McKellen, aged 85, lost his balance and tumbled headfirst into the audience, letting out a “blood-curdling scream.”

The incident occurred just before the interval, prompting an immediate evacuation of the theatre as paramedics were called. Witnesses described the fall to the Daily Mail UK as bone-chilling, with McKellen reportedly screaming “help me”, saying he had pain in his arms. He was quickly taken to the hospital, where it was later confirmed he would make a full recovery, though the evening’s and the following night’s performances were cancelled to allow him to rest.

The acclaimed actor, known for his roles in Lord of the Rings and X-Men was performing a battle scene as John Falstaff when he tripped over stage props.
