A seven-year-old girl has made a remarkable prehistoric discovery after finding what may be a half-million-year-old bone on a beach in Suffolk, with experts suggesting it could belong to a woolly mammoth or another large Ice Age species.

The find, made during a family outing, was later examined by evolutionary biologist Ben Garrod of the University of East Anglia, who confirmed the bone is ancient and likely dates back to the Pleistocene era, though its exact origin remains uncertain.

Regardless of the species, the discovery highlights Suffolk’s rich fossil history and offers a rare glimpse into a time when prehistoric animals roamed landscapes vastly different from those seen today.
