A 19-year-old Afghan refugee has reportedly been arrested in southern France after authorities investigated repeated incidents of severe sexual abuse of animals at an educational farm near Marseille.
Staff at the facility reported discovering sheep and goats over several weeks with injuries and signs of sexual assault, prompting them to install surveillance cameras, which allegedly captured a man committing the acts.
Police later detained the suspect on April 10 and charged him with animal cruelty, with prosecutors stating DNA evidence links him to multiple incidents.
The accused, who arrived in France illegally in late 2025 and was awaiting residency, denies the allegations and has been remanded in custody ahead of a court hearing scheduled for June 22.
Meanwhile, the farm, which cares for hundreds of rescued animals, has launched a fundraiser to cover mounting veterinary and legal costs.
