Teui “TC” Robati, a former Brisbane Broncos player, was found not guilty of two rape charges in Brisbane District Court after a jury deliberated for over seven hours, following allegations he raped a woman in a Fortitude Valley hotel toilet in December 2022.
The woman claimed she was pressured into non-consensual oral sex, but Robati’s defense argued the encounter was consensual, with the jury ultimately clearing him.
Minutes after the verdict, Robati pleaded guilty to a separate unlawful and indecent assault on another woman, involving inappropriate touching, which Judge Paul Everson described as “creepy” and “brazen.”
Despite losing his Broncos contract and facing significant career setbacks, Robati, who grew up in New Zealand, remains optimistic about returning to professional rugby league.
He was sentenced to two years’ probation with no conviction recorded for the assault, with the judge noting his youth and rehabilitation potential.
