Rüdiger Koch, a 59-year-old German aerospace engineer, celebrated setting a Guinness World Record for living underwater for 120 days without depressurisation in a 30-square-metre submerged capsule off the coast of Panama.
Surpassing the previous record of 100 days held by American Joseph Dituri, Koch enjoyed the serene beauty of the underwater environment, equipped with modern amenities such as internet, TV, and an exercise bike, though notably without a shower.
His endeavour, powered by solar panels and monitored 24/7 by cameras and a Guinness adjudicator, aimed to demonstrate the potential for human habitation under the sea.
To mark the achievement, Koch toasted with champagne, smoked a cigar, and leapt into the Caribbean Sea before a celebratory party on land.
