A confrontation at a Gold’s Gym in Los Angeles has gone viral after a woman said she encountered a transgender woman in the women’s locker room, prompting a shouting match, a police response and, she says, the termination of her membership.
In videos posted online, the gym-goer—who identifies as a black lesbian—claims she was nude when a person “followed” her into the locker room, and alleges staff did not act beyond filing an incident report.
She later said police escorted both parties out and that the gym cancelled her membership.
The transgender woman, identified as “Alexis” in a TMZ interview, said she is registered as female at the gym, is undergoing transition, and denied wrongdoing, saying she was wearing a towel on one occasion and was confronted aggressively multiple times.
The exchange has reignited debate over facility access for transgender patrons; California law bars discrimination in public accommodations and requires access to restrooms and locker rooms that align with a person’s “gender identity”. Some, including the woman who filmed the confrontation, called for third-space facilities; Alexis argued separate “trans” rooms could create “new forms of discrimination”.
Gold’s Gym’s specific actions and any formal findings from authorities were not detailed in the videos, but the incident has drawn wide attention amid ongoing national disputes over locker-room policies.
