IKEA New Zealand has temporarily shut its customer support centre for the rest of the week as it struggles to cope with overwhelming demand following its opening two weeks ago, which has led to widespread delivery delays, order errors and customer frustration.
With 29 pick-up points nationwide, many shoppers opted to buy online, but some have seen delivery timeframes stretch from days to weeks, encountered billing mistakes, incorrect refunds and repeated payment demands.
IKEA says early sales exceeded expectations, forcing temporary suspension of some delivery and click-and-collect services as a newly assembled team works extended shifts to stabilise operations.
