Former Finance Minister Sir Roger Douglas and economist Robert MacCulloch have urged Finance Minister Nicola Willis to resign, blaming her handling of ballooning deficits for the sharper-than-expected 0.9 percent GDP contraction in the June quarter.
They argue Treasury’s own forecasts show worsening deficits driven by ageing-related costs, accusing Willis of using “creative accounting tricks” to claim a path to surplus.
Willis, backed by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, rejected the calls, blaming global tariff turmoil for the downturn and insisting the government’s plan will return the books to surplus by 2028/29.
While economists see signs of third-quarter improvement, opposition figures say Willis must take responsibility for New Zealand’s slump compared to Australia’s modest growth.

The arrogance of this man – offering further commentary after selling New Zealand to international bidders under the guise of “Rogernomics” – is staggering. That era saw the flood of so-called “free” money – really just debt and financial extortion – propping up an already doomed economic system. Let’s be clear: debt is not money.
Make no mistake: the entire Western world has sold its people into debt peonage, promising a social paradise in exchange for votes. Few truly understand what this means or how it will ultimately unfold. Perhaps Roger sees it, but certainly not Willis.
It’s a waiting game to people like him, that’s all.
They just need to kick the can down the road and keep up the BS excuses another decade or two until they’ve all died off, then we and our children can deal with the consequences.
Total scumbags.
Roger is correct and more people are recognizing the similarities between the autocue reading Ardern and and the A4 reading Willis.
Luxon and his National ministers are making great progress.
The exceptions are Nicola Willis who helped aussie banks avoid paying back millions they stole off their customers in over charged fees, and tries to pull the wool over kiwis eyes with her nonsense “supermarket fixes”.
Willis is allowing supermarkets to continue charging illegally colluded prices, which are causing nzs crippling cost of living and dismal productivity / earnings.
And Brooke Van Velden who cannot find where the $74.4 billion taxpayer funded covid spend went.
The aforementioned, out of their depth, ministers could cost Luxon the election. Which is incredible because Luxon has 2 competent, experienced, underutilized mps capable of managing the finances and the covid inquiry.
Sam Uffendel and Todd Stephenson are both clever, qualified, and underemployed.
So come on Sam and Todd, surely a quick sex change, to allow Luxon to maintain his quotas, isn’t too much to ask.
We all live under a system of debt creation and servicing
Usury
Part of Babylonian Telmudic Judaism – Political> Economic> Religious
Administered through a Privately Owned and Controlled Jewish Central Bank
Which prints money
Paid back with interest
Whereas we should be printing our own debt free money and not paying somebody else interest for the privilege of using theirs
Works the same for everybody – otherwise You revisit the stone age
Something about aircraft carriers
The current economic cycle world wide is bogged down in a quagmire of debt creation borrowings and coming to an end
The present situation has transpired from and can be predominantly traced back to the $66 billion printed unnecessarily through the covid plandemic
A computer virus construct model innocent of the fact that in reality exists in all influenza never having been isolated nor proven to exist as being stand alone and separate
As a consequence of such ravaging inflation affecting all Western Countries
Who followed the same model for the same reasons
Backed up with fake manipulated massaged data echoed by the MSM to obfuscate the true extent and seriousness of the situation
A license to print money and a license to kill
Well done, you’re on the money on all of your post. I think Willis is incompetent and is way out of her depth. Douglas quite possibly sold us out in the 1980s but I think he and MacCulloch have some innovative ideas, something the Nats are bereft of.
Printing money debases the value of the currency
Raises inflation
Raises the cost of govt borrowing
Pots calling kettles black……too funny……
Nicole Willis has a degree in English Literature, isn’t it time we had politicians that were qualified in key portfolios, we deserve better.
As for the economists that predicted economic growth they are completely out of touch with reality, instead of paying these useless bureaucrats they could have asked any business owner, we would have been far more accurate.
I am by no means defending Willis but the nerve of Roger Douglas! He single handedly WRECKED this country FOREVER. Sold off ALL our state assets to his mates and others including foreigners, absolutely GUTTED provincial New Zealand and left desolate ghost towns full of unemployed people. The social cost of his economic sabotage can never be quantified nor will it ever be reversed. What we are left with is towns full full of gangs, drug and alcohol dependent generational unemployed.
I wish Roger Douglas would just shut up and go away so we can forget he ever existed and not be constantly reminded of the absolute carnage he alone created.
Apparently he lied to David Lange.
Here watch this excellent documentary for ALL the facts:

Thank you for that link.
You watch how the Left AND the Right sold Godzone to foreign corporate bankster interest, haggling who would get the front seat on that gravy-train, while giving the People the illusion that it had a choice to stop that train.
“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.” —Abraham Lincoln—
Absolutely AGREE with all you said. Not to mention Marsden Refinery which he and Lange practically gave away in the 1980’s. He’s got a nerve showing his face
Hipkins wants the whole govt to resign now without naming Willis specifically
The gall displayed by Hipkins is diabolical
Such arrogance and hypocrisy laced with lies
A Labour Party cocktail
Roger Douglas – now thats a name I have not heard for a long time – must be hurting in the current climate to open his crap filled clap trap. What a total loser.
Rodger Douglas – IMF puppet. The man who sold out the country assets to his mates for peanuts. Made him a Sir – the Guillotine would be more suitable for his crime
Yes and I sure hope he’s not claiming a pension, since it’s unaffordable.
The school report is in.
There is no dancing around this issue.
Willis gets an “F”. F_cken useless.
Failure to manage the economy. Her ideology has wrecked the wellbeing of this nation. Had I done this in my company, I would be charged in the courts. Willis is just as bad as that desperate Muldoon.
Where is her accountability?
It is time to cut her loose. The public are going to do that next year anyway.
Am I advocating Labour. Hell no. What I am advocating is a change at the top to more level-headed leaders who understand proper and a careful balanced economy.
Get rid of all government wasteful spending, nonsense health and safety, gender and race equality and employment crap. And for hell’s sake, stop taking money out of the economy to pay for your own stupid policies and debt. All that over taxing has closed down business.
It is clear there are far too many unless people in government departments doing nothing important. Fire their ass and get them to make a service or product for other nations to buy.
Business has broken under the weight of regulation after regulation and regulation.
Local government needs a good kick in the balls or too. Spend on essentials not expansion.
Bang on Anon!
Willis must go now.
Followed by 20,000 public servants.
Brian Roche is working on the latter.
Luxon should be working on the former!
Oh, Roger the Dodger…. Team Ba,al Hat’s… NZ Destroyer.. He’s is still around? Warm place waiting for him and his kind.ie Pagan Pollies. source…https://www.infonews.co.nz/news.cfm?id=17241
