Costco has announced plans for its second Auckland store, confirming it will be built in Drury on a 6.4-hectare site purchased from Kiwi Property.

The new location, adjacent to State Highway 1, will serve customers from South Auckland, Hamilton, and the Waikato region, though no opening date has been set.

The project forms part of Kiwi Property’s 53-hectare mixed-use development, recently granted fast-track approval by the government.

Expected to inject $1.45 billion into Auckland’s economy over the next decade and create more than 3,400 jobs, the development has been welcomed by ministers as a major boost for growth, competition, and lower prices for consumers.

  1. WHAT????..
NOTHING IN WELLINGTON, CHRISTCHURCH OR DUNEDIN????
NOTHING IN HAMILTON, PALMERSTON NORTH OR ROTORUA?
I often wonder why there hasn’t been a merger of The Warehouse & Wal-Mart, with Wal-Mart being the cleaner, better store item location.
IKEA should set-up shop in Welly, Christchurch & Dunedin!
But, on the fast-food note, I’m boycotting Maccas as they supplied burgers to the IDF whilst they go about killing innocent men, women & children in Palestine, but the replacement is Wendy’s, Burger Fuel and Shake-Out!.
    YEA, BABY…!
Those smaller cities which do not have indoor entertainment similar to Motion Entertainment in Rotorua, and The Landing / Dropzone as in Taupo should be considered as the regional smaller cities are growing exponentially.
But then again, nothing will happen under the current Globalist Regines in the Uni-Parties, so these places would only be feasible under a New Zealand Loyal Party Government which would insure operability and affordability to both the providers and customers w/ the 1% tax.

    • You need your brain checked if you think that that sort of business (fast food shit) has any validity of being installed by any party.
Do YOU really think that chains like Wendy’s have any positive role to play in a nation’s nutrition?

    • Bouyed by the massive grocery margins and profits in NZ, and in synch with another aussie dominated duopoly cartel in NZ, Costco expands.

Aren’t they worried about the discount supermarkets who took Australia by storm and forced grocery prices down so an Australian family now pays $10,000 less a year than a NZ family?

Not with the dishonest and dumb Nicola Willis at the helm, ALDI and LIDL won’t get a look in to the duopoly controlled wholesale food market, and therefore NZ.

  2. I’m sure this will be welcomed by local New Zealand owned businesses, who will easily compete with the third largest US retailer in the world. Not hard to see where National and co’s loyalties lie, is it? Oops maybe I shouldn’t say that, the un-elected, foreign law enforcement arm, the FBI, might be watching!

  3. Immature West Aucklanders regulated by booze trust monopoly.
And grown up south Aucklanders will be able to buy booze at Costco.
