ACT’s candidate for the new Kenepuru electorate, Lyra Yan Zhang, has withdrawn from November’s election after it emerged she failed to disclose her previous membership of the China Zhi Gong Party, a political organisation linked to the Chinese Communist Party’s United Front system.
The party said all candidates are required to declare past political affiliations and confirmed Zhang resigned after the omission came to light. Security experts told legacy media membership of the Zhi Gong Party indicates close ties to the CCP and raises concerns about potential foreign influence.
Zhang, who says she left the organisation in 2020, remains supportive of ACT despite stepping aside. The development comes amid renewed warnings from New Zealand’s intelligence agencies that China remains the country’s most active source of foreign interference, with political parties urged to remain vigilant when selecting candidates.
Yeah, if that wus all.
As usual, there is MUCH more filth amongst the usual suspects:
Jian Yang (National Party), former civilian officer in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). hetaught English at institutions linked to Chinese military intelligence for 15 years.served as National Party’s liaison to the Chinese community; family background is central ; he admitted to not disclosing his intelligence background during his citizenship application. RHad to rtire in 2020, but still in NZ.
Raymond Huo (Labour Party): Leader of the New Zealand OBOR Think Tank. hHe identified as working closely with China’s United Front organizations. BTW: Labour takes thejr slogans from Xi Jinping. Raymonds wife Johanna Coughlan leads the China One Belt One Road ‘Foundation’ in New Zealand. Raymond [typical English name, ay?] had to retire in 2020.
Nancy Lu (National Party): Current MP; accompanied Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on a 2025 trade mission to China “to strengthen people-to-people ties”. Shes married…spouse’s business links hidden.
Pansy Wong (National Party): First Asian MP and former Cabinet Minister. married to Sammy Wong, a Malaysian-born businessman of Chinese heritage who has held various business interests and served as a Justice of the Peace, yep, you read that right.
Then there is the old crowd…banksters: Jenny Shipley (Former PM, National). she cchairs the China Construction Bank New Zealand; board member of parent company China Construction Bank Corporation (CCB)
Don Brash (National: Chairs the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) in New Zealand. He aknowledged that Chinese banks seek former politicians for “access and advantage”.
Ruth Richardson (Former Finance Minister. National): Director of the Bank of China in New Zealand.
Chris Tremain (National: Chairs the Bank of China in New Zealand. also a director.
Bill Tong (Former Mayor of Invercargill): Accepted an all-expenses-paid trip to China funded by the China Zhi Gong Party (a United Front-linked party). his wife Sharon Ayto accompanied him on the trip. The invitation was facilitated through links between the National Party and Chinese donors.
Conor English (Brother of former PM Bill English): Appointed to the board of GMP Dairy, part of a conglomerate linked to the Australia-New Zealand China Health Forum (identified as a United Front group).
And then the beehive wonders why The People had enough of corruption!
I can’t see much difference between what we have here now and the CCP personally. Well aside from higher taxes here., especially if Labour and co get in. CGT in China runs to 20% on non family homes not 28%.
