ACT Party candidate for Whangārei’s Bream Bay Ward, Matt Yovich, has removed one of his election hoardings after it was found riddled with bullet holes near a friend’s rural property.
Police were called after seven shots were fired into the sign, mainly through Yovich’s silhouette, with several shotgun casings discovered at the scene. While Yovich initially took the incident lightly, he later acknowledged the seriousness of the attack, especially given the distress it caused his friends whose property the sign was on.
Police say they have little evidence to pursue further without new information.
The left are unhinged lunatics
Easy solution to stop election hoarding vandalism. Ban them! They are a blight on the landscape and under current law are allowed to be displayed for nine weeks prior to an election which is bloody ridiculous.
Agree. A bloody blight and a bloody trigger.
Agree 100%.
Suddenly we are condemned to see all these smiling election faces, never seen before, now wanting my vote. I phone them up, asking about their merit in society and enterprise.
What do I get: failed lawyers, unemployed, ol’ boys club members or the very career individuals asking for re-election after they increased my debt and that of my children.
Local elections should function on the base of voting not FOR cuntcilors but against them. I bet voter participation would triple.
Well said. No councillors are ever available if you want to talk to them outside of the election stupid season. They also draw quite a reasonable wage for their two weeks of public exposure.
A good sign to vote for him. If the leftist looneys hate him, he loves New Zealand.
Exactly, looney lefties are the violent ones. It’s been laid bare for all to see now.
This kind of behaviour can be directly attributed to how our police, judiciary and the likes of the Maori party allow violent behaviour in parliament and online with no repercussions.
Agree with another poster, all this election and political signage needs to be banned. I often see them along roads with general messages from politicians long after any election has been and gone. A blight on the landscape.
Do what people ask and you wont need to advertise.
We are so played.
