Air NZ Christmas strike averted after in-principle deal with cabin crew

Air New Zealand Christmas strike called of after agreement

Air New Zealand short-haul cabin crew have called off a planned strike scheduled for 18 December after reaching an “agreement in principle” with the airline following months of negotiations.

The industrial action, which threatened domestic, trans-Tasman and Pacific flights during the busy Christmas period, was withdrawn after unions judged the proposed deal to be close enough to finalisation, despite some wording still to be settled.

Union E tū said talks had been ongoing since April and that striking was a last resort, while Air New Zealand welcomed the outcome, saying it avoided customer disruption and recognised the vital role of cabin crew while supporting the airline’s long-term sustainability.
