Air New Zealand moved rapidly to manage disruptions after Airbus revealed that intense solar radiation could corrupt key flight-control data on A320-family jets, prompting an urgent global software update.
The airline initially announced it would ground all A320neo aircraft as a precaution, cancelling 12 flights, but later restored services until 12:59pm Sunday following revised guidance from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency that allowed temporary operations.
Air NZ said it would now roll out the required updates across its A320 fleet as quickly as possible to limit further delays, emphasising that the issue presents no immediate safety risk to passengers.
Airbus acknowledged the disruption caused but stressed that safety remains its top priority.
