US President Donald Trump has given Iran 48 hours to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, threatening a major escalation.
In a post on Truth Social, he said “time is running out” for Tehran and that “all Hell will reign down” if his demands are ignored. The ultimatum comes amid a sharp drop in maritime traffic through the key oil transit route.
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization has condemned the latest US-Israeli strike near the Bushehr nuclear power plant – the fourth since hostilities began – accusing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of “inaction” and warning of potential legal action. The projectile hit near the facility’s perimeter, killing a security guard and damaging an auxiliary building.
“Condemning the attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities and ending inaction is the minimum expectation from the IAEA under its statutory responsibilities,” the agency said on X.
The IAEA earlier confirmed it had been informed of the incident and reported no rise in radiation levels. Director General Rafael Grossi expressed “deep concern,” warning nuclear sites “must never be attacked,” but did not directly condemn the US or Israel.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned the consequences from a potential direct hit on the plant could extend beyond Iran, saying “radioactive fallout will end life in [Gulf Cooperation Countries] capitals, not Tehran.”
Meanwhile, a large-scale search is underway for a missing US pilot after an F-15E Strike Eagle was downed over Iran on Friday. Reports say one crew member was rescued by US special forces, while Iranian forces are also searching the mountainous Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad region. Iranian authorities earlier offered a reward for information leading to the pilot’s capture.
In addition, an A-10 Thunderbolt II was also hit by Iranian fire during search-and-rescue operations, though the pilot managed to exit Iranian airspace before ejecting over Kuwait, where he was recovered.
Open-source analysts estimate US aircraft losses in the war exceed $2 billion, with replacement costs likely to be higher.
Iran’s embassy in Vienna accused EU officials, including Kaja Kallas, of “hypocrisy” over the war.
Tehran has reportedly allowed humanitarian shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
India said its oil imports remain unaffected by the conflict.
The US military’s top Catholic priest rebuked Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth for invoking religion to justify the war.
