Appeal for information following alleged copper theft in Tawa

Police investigating an alleged copper theft in Wellington last week are seeking the public’s assistance.

Between 6am and 7am on Friday 3 July, Police were notified that railway signal cables had been tampered with at the southern end of the Takapu Road platform in Tawa.

The damage caused multiple signal issues and disrupted rail services.

“Police are seeking to identify the person pictured, as we believe they may have information that could assist our enquiries.



“Additionally, we are seeking any information or footage of a dark coloured ute, that was seen in the area around the time the incident was reported.

“Anybody who witnessed any suspicious activity, or saw either the person or vehicle pictured, is encouraged to contact Police via our 105 service, either over the phone or online at 105.police.govt.nz.”
