Auckland businessman jailed for massive cigarette smuggling scam

Weijie Ru news

Auckland businessman Weijie Ru has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for leading a sophisticated operation that smuggled millions of black-market cigarettes into New Zealand, after a judge dismissed his claims of being duped by a mysterious customer named “Tim” and abandoned by his wife.

Ru was found guilty of importing prohibited goods and defrauding Customs after X-rays uncovered two shipments containing around 3.3 million concealed cigarettes, part of a pattern of four suspicious imports in 2020.

Judge Stephen Bonnar said none of the defence evidence, including testimony from Ru’s wife and brother, was credible, and described the offending as planned, transnational, and motivated by significant financial gain.

While his older brother received community work for selling illicit tobacco, Weijie Ru was denied home detention despite arguments about hardship to his children, with the judge expressing “significant scepticism” about his claims and noting over $4 million in evaded taxes.

  1. Pity we have to import third world to prop up our economy in a perilous state through a long line of incompetent deranged and corrupt politicians who should never be allowed near a pie cart let alone holding the reins of a country

  2. Just think about this for a second.

The same system full of lies and corruption calling out corruption on a guy who wanted to try and beat the system which currently has and continues to keep everyone in shackles (if you know what I mean). They’ll come after you for your money and force you out of your home via ‘managed retreat’ whether you like it or not.

Remember this, the established corrupt rothchild owned ‘Crown’ ensures nobody can prosper without nearly dying first, retirement at 65, sweat for decades before having any sign of peace in life, constant surveillance, cost of living crisis…

Do you all think this guy wants to screw you and your families over or is it governments and a wider leash they use that screws us all.

Who are the real criminals? This purely denotes the weight a government puts on people when they don’t toe the line.

I’m not generalising to murderers and that sort of filth. This is purely about a system of control and when you challenge that system, you get punished or you die. Shane Christie might be a great example of challenging a system by defining what a ‘person’ and ‘berth’ certificate actually means.

In any case this entire planet of flesh and blood has been corrupt since the very beginning, we’re all sinners in the biblical sense no matter how much sugar we coat ourselves in and the authoritarianism by authorities is no different.

    My two cents.

  3. Price of cigarettes is ridiculously high. Another example of state overkill and money theft. If you want to smoke its your decision and the state should just butt out of it.

  4. Look what happened in the UK
    Muslim grooming gangs
Had been going on for years
    They were all protected
Like it was considered racist to stop a non white and conduct a knife search
    Endemic knife crime
    Britain is gone
    Everything is going to plan

  5. “……described the offending as planned, transnational, and motivated by significant financial gain.”

Sounds alike another planned event involving jabs from not too long ago. If only he had stood for office and joined in government then. Would have cleaned up big time and gotten away, Scott free.
