A fatal crash has closed the city-bound port link from Auckland’s Northwestern and Northern Motorways, causing heavy congestion and lengthy delays into central Auckland.
Police confirmed one person has died, with the Serious Crash Unit investigating at the scene.
Traffic on the Northwestern backed up about 7km from Western Springs to Spaghetti Junction, while delays also built from the Northern Motorway.
NZ Transport Agency urged motorists to delay travel, with detours directing port-bound traffic via the Southern Motorway or alternative exits at Fanshawe St and Gillies Ave.
Diversions are expected to remain in place for some time.
