University of Auckland researcher Dr Samantha Marsh is urging social media platforms to enforce age restrictions, proposing a minimum age of 16 to curb mounting mental and physical health issues linked to young users.
A new Public Health Communication Centre briefing cites consistent evidence from global studies linking excessive social media use to depression, anxiety, and poor sleep in adolescents.
Marsh told state-funded legacy media that while social media can offer peer support, its risks outweigh the benefits, and stricter age enforcement would allow parents to set healthier boundaries.
The call comes as the government conducts a public inquiry into online harms, with Marsh advocating for a coordinated public health approach to create safer digital environments.

Problem – Reaction – Solution. The insidious creep of safetyism in our society has a lot to answer for.
NZ universities that indoctrinate kids with maorism and woke. Yeah, we know that are all for the control ID. The politicians take their kids to Australia universities becuase NZ has gone to shit.

This University researcher would do well to study the NZ Bill of Rights, the International Covenant on Civic and Political Rights as well as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child before blabbing off to the media.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child makes it perfectly clear that children have the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds.
The same Convention makes it abundantly clear that governments shall respect the rights and duties of parents to provide direction to the child in respect of their rights consistent with their evolving capabilities.
Simple solution. Parents buy a basic mobile phone for their kids to keep in touch rather than a smart phone. The government acknowledges that parents are responsible for the child’s upbringing. .
Apparently children do not have the right to seek, receive and impart information at schools.
My child informed the teachers and fellow classmates that the suicidal rate in trans exceeded that of the general population. That wearing masks was in fact detrimental to health, due to the moulds that grew. All backed up by scientific papers that was researched and made sure they were from legitimate sources.
And the sentence for critical thinking was expulsion
