Police have located a body believed to be Elisabeth ‘Lis’ Nicholls, a 79-year-old woman with dementia who went missing from the Margaret Stoddart Retirement Village in Riccarton, Christchurch, on 4 June.

Her body was found Sunday afternoon at a property on Gracefield Avenue. While formal identification is pending, police say it is likely to be Nicholls, who was last seen on the evening she disappeared.

Extensive search efforts had been underway involving police and volunteers. Her family expressed both sadness and relief at the discovery and gratitude to all who helped in the search.

The case will be referred to the coroner.
