Grieving family members gathered at Baldwin Avenue station in Auckland’s Mount Albert on Wednesday evening after a young boy died after being hit by a train.
Police were called to the station shortly before 3.30pm, with an officer at the cordon confirming to legacy media a boy had been struck.
Hato Honr St John deployed an ambulance and rapid response vehicle, while Fire and Emergency New Zealand sent three crews to assist police.
Passengers reported the train braking suddenly after the driver spotted a person on the tracks. Police have not confirmed whether the boy was a student. Auckland Transport said limited train services had resumed between the city centre and Morningside, and between Avondale and Swanson.
