Health Minister Simeon Brown has ousted Medical Council Chair Dr Rachelle Love, Deputy Chair Simon Watt and CEO Joan Simeon, accusing them of pushing an “ideological agenda”.
The measures Brown took issue with include making doctors examine their own biases and privilege, weaving Treaty obligations into medical regulation, requiring doctors to acknowledge how the health system disadvantages Maori patients, and setting targets for Maori representation in the medical workforce.
“I expect the new council members to refocus on what matters most to Kiwis; putting patients first, improving health outcomes, and supporting the growth of our medical workforce,” Brown said. Read more at Stuff and The Post.
