The manager of Quinney’s Bush Camp in Motupiko, southeast of Nelson, has expressed gratitude to medical professionals staying at the campground who swiftly assisted a person seriously injured in a flying fox accident.

The incident occurred on Saturday when the flying fox reportedly snapped, prompting a helicopter rescue to Nelson Hospital.

While no prior issues were noted during recent safety checks, the camp manager vowed to enhance safety measures with weekly equipment inspections and stricter oversight of guest usage.

The accident has been reported to Worksafe, which is conducting initial inquiries but has not launched a formal investigation.
