The action was taken after a car was reportedly spotted performing burnouts on the Gisborne rainbow pedestrian crossing late Friday night.
The incident is believed to have occurred around 8:30 pm and left behind large skid marks on the crossing.
Officers located and impounded the vehicle just after 2 am this morning. Footage of the incident circulated widely on social media.
