Chiefs star Sean Wainui laid to rest

Chiefs star Sean Wainui was laid to rest yesterday at Te Wainui Marae in Gisborne.

The father of two died in a car accident near McLaren Falls on 18 October. He leaves behind a wife Paige, and two children.

In an emotional tribute posted on Instagram, Paige Wainui thanked all those who have supported her and the children. A GiveaLittle page has raised nearly $270,000 for the family.

“I don’t have the words right now or could begin to describe the feeling of losing you baby all I know is I don’t wish this on anyone,” she wrote.

“I’m in absolute pieces and in so much pain knowing my whole other half to me has left this earth,” she wrote in the caption.

“But I will forever celebrate you my love for being the most amazing and incredible husband & father you were and the special years we got to spend together on this earth.”

Meanwhile a video of Wainui showing his 8 month old son how to do the haka has attracted a lot of attention on social media, with more than 1.2 million views.
