Child under 10 dies from COVID – legacy media

A child under 10 years old has died with COVID according to reports in legacy media.

Stuff.co.nz and NZHerald, apparently privately-owned independent news sites but which have received government funding over the pandemic, have both reported the tragic death.

The child is said to be a Maori boy from the Counties-Manukau area.

According to NZHerald:

‘Recorded Covid deaths include all cases where a person was classified as having an active case of the virus at the time of death. In some of these cases, the underlying cause of death may have been unrelated to COVID-19.

It is not clear if the child, believed to be a boy from Counties Manukau, had any underlying medical conditions that may have contributed to his death.’

Notwithstanding this the NZHerald headline read: Child under 10 becomes NZ’s youngest COVID death.

In November a man shot dead in a driveway was included in the COVID deaths tally, because he had the virus at the time of his murder.

The death was announced just one week after Medsafe approved the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5-11.

In Australia, there are no known deaths reported of/with COVID for children aged 0-9 out of 23,831 positive cases.

In the US, the CDC gives a total of 200 COVID deaths for the age group 5-14 as at 27 November 2021. There were 334 deaths from pneumonia for that age group in the same period.
