China protests Peters’ remarks

Lawrence Xu-Nan news
Winston Peters (L), Lawrence Xu-Nan (R).

China has formally complained to New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade after Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters told Green MP Lawrence Xu-Nan to “go back to your own country” during a heated parliamentary debate.

The Chinese Embassy said it had made formal representations, urging New Zealand to protect the rights of the Chinese community and foster an inclusive environment while warning against actions that could harm bilateral relations.

Peters has refused to retract his comments, saying they were intended to defend New Zealand’s democratic values, while Xu-Nan accused him of repeated “racist behaviour” and called on Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to take action.

  1. Oh boy are the commies gunning for NZFirst!
A Chinese man calling a Maori minister a racist? In New Zealand? Really?
How many Maori or Europeans sitting in China’s governing seats? None? No ‘inclusive environment’ in China?
What a pack of sanctimonious hypocrites.
When the Chinese government is as diverse as that in New Zealand, then stand up on your hind legs and call us racist!
If anything, this should mean the end of this Xu-Nan’s attempt at a political career.

  2. Words like defend our ‘democratic values’ like ‘free trade agreement’ like ‘international rules-based order’ like new world order is the forked ‘tongue language’ used by the few to control the many.

‘Democracies degenerate into despotisms.” – Aristotle

  3. This is very childish & hypocritical of China given their past brutalities and how they treat their citizens.
GROW UP STOP PLAYING THE RACE CARD WE ARE OVER THAT B/S.

  4. ‘actions that could harm bilateral relations’ ???

Please, do f*** off and keep f****** off, Modi can do the same.

  5. Note they did not address the lying like flatfish comment. Peters as FM would have insights to recent live missile firing in our pacific and the lying that went on there. To Jayem, I agree. Chinese race baiting and meetings with Tamihere show these foreign nation states are influencing our politics. Peters has always called put the China-Pacific threat.

  6. Go Winston !!
This is the 2nd time I am aware of that Winston has stood up and spoken out against CCP ideology and behaviour
And is the ONE thing I respect him for. He refuses to bend down and kiss the hand of the authoritan regime.
That Chinese greens mp may have lived here for a while but you can be assured that, that Chinese mp has been well
    indoctrinated with the regimes mentality.

    • Yes you should go home and he can take Helen Clark with him seens she loves the Communist way so much we don’t need her comments she can just bugger off

  7. I don’t like Peters but China is being disingenuous here. China makes it incredibly hard for non Chinese to settle in China long term, let alone gain PR or citizenship. They also finger print people visiting China at customs and immigration. They should be grateful NZ takes in their people in.lets them stay and doesn’t finger print Chinese visitors to NZ, as if they are criminals in the making.,

      • They may discourage it but its not that hard to leave unless you are someone deemed of vital importance. That said, given how well their economy is doing, why would you want to?

  8. Go Winston, well done. China just fired a missile into the Pacific and theyre telling us to play the game? Winston for PM.

  9. ‘Racism’ as a term has long lost any true meaning in a world where gene splicing, organ transplants, blood transfusions, inter-racial marriage, artificially intelligent technologies etc.etc.loop any definition of an unadulterated racial type. Even in the remotest parts of the world there is contact and contamination. Mr Peters, as a senior statesman, is confronted with the disrespect for a generation which has rolled up its sleeves many times over to provide the easeir living conditions which are now ubiquitously taken for granted. He deserves some respect.
