Christchurch police detective Luke Fazackerley is under investigation for allegedly accessing a rape complainant’s case file after beginning a sexual relationship with her once removed from her case.
According to report in legacy media today, the probe, referred by the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA), follows concerns he viewed sensitive information that the complainant, Alex McPhail, says left her feeling manipulated and violated.
McPhail waived her right to anonymity, choosing to speak publicly about her experience to highlight police misconduct.
Police confirmed an audit of Fazackerley’s database searches led to further investigation, while the IPCA said no misconduct was found in how police initially handled her complaint. Fazackerley, who remains employed, has had a planned transfer to Queensland Police put on hold.
Its elementary
A case of the hairy magnet
Very confusing.
If the cop was investigating her case, wouldn’t he already have known all the details in her file? If she’d already entered into a “sexual relationship” with him, how could she feel “violated” and why would any of it matter?
Sounds more like a lover’s quarrel and a p*ssed off young woman looking for attention.
Not really confusing. If I’m reading this correctly he was removed from the case but then returned to the case files? I guess the question is why?
Yeah, not enough info to go on.
Anyone who is interviewed by the police has felt manipulated and violated.
It sounds like he entertained some controversy between his personal relationship and experience with her vs the case file, past or present.
Either way it is good to see the NZ Police have an effective unauthorized or inappropriate information access system.
