A Christchurch man has been sentenced to 28 months in prison after a violent alcohol-fuelled rampage that left seven people injured, including his partner, three children, two neighbours, and a police officer.
The attack began when the man assaulted his partner—who was holding a baby—after she refused to talk to him.
He slapped her, dragged her along the floor, and struck her with a ceramic pot, fracturing her shoulder and teeth.
When three of their children intervened, he punched and kicked them, causing facial injuries and bruising.
He then attacked two neighbours at a nearby address and resisted arrest, assaulting a police officer in the process.
The judge noted the severity of the attacks, the vulnerability of the victims, and the man’s breach of an existing rehabilitation sentence, describing it as a serious breach of trust.
