Chinese national Tingjun Cao has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 17 and a half years for the murder of Christchurch real estate agent Yanfei Bao, who he lured to a Hornby property in July 2023 before abducting and killing her.
Bao’s family delivered emotional victim impact statements in the High Court, describing the devastating loss and ongoing trauma.
During sentencing, Cao repeatedly disrupted proceedings and was removed from the courtroom.
The judge condemned his lack of remorse and dismissed his conspiracy claims.
Immigration authorities are now considering further enforcement action.
