Posties in Wellington initially refused to deliver pamphlets from the political campaign group Better Wellington, which contained contentious claims about council spending, city-wide speed limits, and the broadcasting of Islamic calls to prayer.
The Postal Workers Union expressed concerns that distributing the pamphlets could harm community relations and contradict NZ Post’s commitment to social responsibility. Despite this, NZ Post management decided to move forward with the distribution, stating that it is not their role to censor the materials they deliver.
The pamphlet’s claims have been met with criticism from local officials, including Wellington City councillor Rebecca Matthews, who clarified that the council’s consideration of broadcasting Islamic calls to prayer was limited to special occasions and not for daily use. Matthews and others argue that the pamphlet was designed to provoke anger and was influenced by Islamophobic sentiment. The council has since asked its staff to clarify the district plan rules related to calls to prayer, with a report expected next month.

Would be good to see what’s actually in this flyer. If its saying rates are horrifically excessive and some of the speed limits are moronically low, then I can but agree 110%.
Gee, isn’t it great that we have such a “caring” government corporation legal fiction called NZ Post supported by- The Postal Workers Union of Aotearoa? (PWUA) to censor for us such harmful mis, dis and mal information such as constructive criticism of another government corporation legal fiction masquerading as Wellington council.
New Zealand post can just pack its bags and go back to Aotearoa where ever that is.
NZ Post holds over the mail of Targeted Individuals, and photographs the same, and can read mail using air pressure to inflate envelopes while a boroscope reads the mail itself.
Delayed mail to overseas locations costs $$$ when dealing with time constraints (ie contract deadlines, legal parameters overseas, etc.) They hold-back courier express overseas mail where the return address lists a ‘person of interest’.
Unfortunately, the remaining courier companies do the same. Just leaves one wondering how much the compromised courier services are getting paid to violate the Right to Privacy and the Human & Civil rights of those Targeted Individuals’..
