A small single-engine private aircraft carrying five people crashed in a residential area in Manheim Township in Pennsylvania.
The incident occurred near Lancaster Airport shortly after 3 pm on Sunday. Videos from the scene show pieces of fuselage lying on a parking lot, with several cars engulfed in flames.
Local news channel WPVI-TV said there are reports of multiple injuries.
“Our team at Pennsylvania State Police is on the ground assisting local first responders,” Governor Josh Shapiro wrote on X.
“All Commonwealth resources are available as the response continues, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.”

The US has had several deadly aviation incidents in recent months. In January, 67 people were killed when a US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with a passenger plane over the Potomac River. A medical jet crashed in Philadelphia the same month, killing seven people. In February, a passenger Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX crash in Alaska killed 10 people.
Flight Instructor – “You have an engine failure…what do you do?”
Student Pilot – “You check the fuel, check the carb heat, check to see if both mags are on…”
Flight Instructor – “NO! THE FIRST THING YOU DO IN AN EMERGENCY IS TO FLY THE AIRPLANE! Emergency procedures come second to that!”
Student Pilot – “Oh…I never thought of it like that…”
What happened here from what I can deduce and surmise was that the pilot was pre-occupied with a door that popped-open as opposed to flying the plane, resulting in the crash from lack of attention or diverted priorities.
And probably the door was not properly checked before take-off, as Beechcraft Bonanza doors just don’t pop-open on their own…!
