Controversry erupts over ‘halal certified’ school lunches

Government faces accusations of racism and marginalising the Muslim community after school lunch provider Compass admitted its ‘halal-friendly’ meals are not fully halal-certified.

Despite using halal-certified meat, Compass’s facilities lack halal certification, prompting criticism from the Federation of Islamic Associations (FIANZ) and school leaders.

Associate Education Minister David Seymour argued full certification would be an unjustified expense, but FIANZ President Abdur Razaaq Khan refuted this, stating certification is possible without costly new facilities.

Khan accused Seymour of ignorance and ‘othering’ the Muslim community, highlighting the exclusion of Muslim students, some of whom received ham sandwiches in supposedly halal meals.

Papatoetoe Intermediate School, with 200 Muslim students, expressed outrage to state-funded media, noting the Ministry was aware of their halal requirements. Principal Pauline Cornwall warned the failure to meet these needs denies equitable access to school lunches, calling it a fundamental ethical failure and a form of discrimination.

  1. Next will come ‘Kosher’ meals!
Or…how about a freshly-made Glyphosate Salad with GMO toppings???
Just another plan to cause further distancing, disruptions, and political correctness via ‘Cultural Enrishment on a Plate’.
Eat what the hell you’re given, or…DON’T EAT AT ALL!

    • Exactly Peter. The parents take responsibility for their children’s needs, not the state. This is what happens when we let the state introduce PC, woke ideology. Sounds all warm and fuzzy, but grows into a major taxpayer burden. “Most people don’t want freedom, they want a free lunch”

        Essential truth to socialism.
Or: WE SOLD YOUR CHILDREN FOR THE DEBT WE BOUGHT YOUR VOTES WITH.

  2. Othering and marginalizing the muslim community strikes me as a good idea. Observing the behavior of muslims, it is obvious that a country is better off without a muslim community.

  3. ‘Islam’ means ‘subjugation’… now you know why they cry hard and loud to permeate every muslum antithetical vestige of our culture. They are not us.

  4. If you can’t afford to feed your children don’t have them my parents where always struggling but we always had food in our lunch tins to many victims around these days.

  5. Free lunch is free, beggars can’t be choosers my mum used to say. Make your own kids lunch if you have special dietary requirements FFS.

A jam sandwich is halal – make one of those and stop moaning or go to a Muslim country to live. How many of us would go to a foreign country and then moan that they don’t cater ti our dietary or religious requirements? Honestly just sick and tired of people coming here and making demands. When in Rome people when in Rome.

Another pet peeve of mine is Poms, Canadians or American leftists and greenies coming here and telling us what we should be doing. Why don’t they just F off and fix their own countries.

  6. This is really outrageous and cultural appropriation on steroids. Every school should have an official Ratana blessing at lunchtime before serving kai and all children should thoroughly wash their hands and say a small prayer of thanks. Otherwise, back to sandwiches.
