The clash saw nine lead changes, including several in a frantic final 10 minutes. The Highlanders struck first with two tries but also suffered two yellow cards, allowing the Waratahs to edge ahead 13-12 at halftime.
The second half turned into an end-to-end try-fest, with both sides trading scores until Amone’s decisive moment. Highlanders co-captain Timoci Tavatavanawai starred for the visitors with a try and some big defensive hits in a match where attack stole the spotlight.
