Pfizer and BioNTech have abandoned a large-scale U.S. clinical trial of their updated COVID-19 vaccine targeting healthy adults aged 50 to 64, after failing to recruit enough participants to produce meaningful data.
In correspondence sent to investigators on March 30, the companies confirmed that monitoring for COVID-related illness in enrolled participants will cease after April 3, with recruitment having already been closed earlier in March following a review of infection trends.
According to Reuters, the decision reflects broader headwinds facing COVID vaccine manufacturers, including declining public demand and stricter regulatory expectations.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently tightened requirements, calling for large placebo-controlled trials in this age group before recommending updated ‘vaccines’. Pfizer and BioNTech said regulators had been notified of the halt, confirming the move was due to the inability to enrol the roughly 25,000 to 30,000 participants required.
Recruitment proved particularly difficult because the trial excluded individuals with common conditions such as hypertension or diabetes, sharply narrowing the eligible pool. Industry sources involved in trial management said a significant proportion of willing volunteers failed to meet the strict health criteria, making it impossible to reach the necessary scale.
The suspension also raises uncertainty over future approvals for this demographic, especially ahead of an upcoming advisory meeting expected to shape vaccine strain selection for the next season. Without sufficient trial data, experts say regulators may lack the evidence needed to formally consider updated vaccines for healthy adults in this age bracket.
While Pfizer and BioNTech step back, Moderna continues to run a similar U.S. study, although it too is reportedly facing enrolment difficulties. Despite remaining a key revenue stream for pharmaceutical companies, demand for COVID boosters has dropped significantly in the United States, with only a small share of the population receiving updated doses in the most recent season.

Take a blood test of Ardern and Hipkins and find out if they had the mRNA injection or not. For all their theatre, I would bet the farm there is no trace of spike protein in their blood.
Why were the police so much against protecting themselves from the disease ridden populace? Wouldn’t you think those front liners would have been first in line for the jab? They would have been if they hadn’t known the truth.
Targetting healthy adults from age 50 to 64 – why that age group? Oh. Near the end of their work life. Then when they get sick they can be offered euthanasia.
It’s really futile keeping quiet, falling in with the programme, and hoping the globalist monster will eat everyone else first.
