The 30 students and a driver had a lucky escape as the bus drove through the guard rail and was left precariously balanced over the side of the bridge.
The accident happened on the Newton Road Bridge at around 8am this morning.
Glenda Fryer, a Waitemata Local Board member happened to be driving past the scene and tweeted a photo and message about the accident.

The road is closed as the recovery operation takes place. The accident has disrupted a number of AT bus services.
