New Zealand’s Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh and Islamic councils have issued an ‘election ultimatum’ demanding every party promise hate speech policies, highlighting the ethnic voting bloc as a significant 18.4% of the population.
The push followed a video from Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki urging New Zealand to ‘purge’ Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims and burn mosques and temples ‘tit for tat,’ which he cast as reciprocity for Christians’ persecution in India.
Ethnic Communities Minister Mark Mitchell branded it as the “actions of a scared bully,” while Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said he was “not interested”. Human rights barrister Scott Sheeran said Tamaki’s remarks broke no New Zealand law. Tamaki called it a “power grab,” insisting free speech “must remain protected”. I too am concerned about this, and Tamaki’s calling it out and should be listened to, and this situation of installing ‘Hate Speech’ which violates not only Domestic NZ Law, but also International Law shall not be entertained, implemented or adhered to!

They’ve never denied it – not in 1200 years have they ever denied it. Actually they’re proud of it and then again I haven’t seen Buddhists flying planes into buildings or raping young white girls.

However, and you are right here, despite Buddhism’s commitment to non-violence, the 21st century has witnessed a rise in Buddhist nationalism where monks in countries like Myanmar and Sri Lanka have revolted against minority groups. You see, divide and conquer works overseas too. Their revolts were driven by a fusion of religious identity and ethno-nationalism.
They obviously had enough. They defended their faith and nation from existential threats. They are not frogs being boiled slowly.

Why should we follow the UK and Australia down the free speech rabbit hole, because of a few marginal opinions? The problem too, if you start doing this on one front, it snowballs and before you know it, free speech is a thing of the past.
New Zealand is a Christian nation. If you are not Christian then you should leave. Christianity is a wonderful, family oriented, and happy community values. If some foreigners have different values ours should not be replaced by theirs. If I want sharia law, I would go to a sharia law country not a western one.
