Long-stable cancer patients have experienced relapses following Covid-19 booster vaccinations, MPs have been told, prompting calls for further urgent investigation into any potential link with mRNA vaccines.
Professor Angus Dalgleish, a skin cancer specialist and former foundation chair of oncology at St George’s, University of London, presented his concerns to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Pandemic Response and Recovery, stating that evidence supporting the claims has grown beyond initial observations. “In my opinion, this is no longer a hypothesis. The data are in. The mechanisms are understood. The signal is screaming. It is time to act,” he told MPs.
Dalgleish said the issue first became apparent among his own patients, noting that individuals who had been stable for years experienced sudden relapses after receiving booster doses. “The only common factor we could find was the booster. These patients had been stable for three to 18 years. The relapses required new treatment,” he said.
He described a cluster of six stage-4 melanoma patients who relapsed within weeks of receiving booster shots in late 2021 and early 2022, adding that laboratory testing pointed to changes in immune response linked specifically to booster doses rather than initial vaccinations. “We conducted laboratory testing which showed the booster… changed everything,” he told the group.
According to Dalgleish the key concern is the impact on the immune system’s ability to control cancer. “We observed that following the booster… profound T-cell exhaustion and suppression occurred, the very immune mechanism that keeps melanoma and other cancers in check,” he said.
He also said attempts to raise these concerns with regulators had received limited response. “Together with colleagues, we wrote several open letters to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)… Replies, if we got them, made it clear that they were not taking our concerns seriously,” he told MPs.
APPG chair Esther McVey described the evidence as “among the most alarming” presented to the group, while co-chair Graham Stringer said Dalgleish’s findings warranted urgent scrutiny by regulators.
Dalgleish said the issue may extend beyond melanoma, citing reports from other clinicians of changing cancer patterns, including more aggressive disease appearing in younger patients. He added: “We have seen similar patterns emerge globally and a number of studies have made it plain.”
He referenced international research and population data analyses that he said indicated rising cancer incidence following multiple booster doses across several cancer types.
The APPG session did not establish a causal link between Covid-19 boosters and cancer, but MPs said the testimony could increase pressure for further independent studies into long-term vaccine safety.
In response, MHRA Chief Safety Officer Dr Alison Cave claimed “current evidence” did not support any association between Covid-19 jabs and increased cancer risk.
