There has been a proliferation of fake profiles and livestream links related to the funeral of the late Green MP Fa’anānā Efeso Collins.
The fraudulent pages have been using pictures of Collins and his family to advertise a hoax livestream of his funeral.
Collins, 49, passed away suddenly after participating in a charity event in Auckland.
Tipene Funerals, responsible for the arrangements, were aware of the existence of these fake Facebook pages and clarified that none are affiliated with the company. Genuine information regarding the funeral will be communicated through its Facebook page or the news media.
The company told State-backed media outlet RNZ it plans to provide official livestream details on its Facebook page closer to the memorial service on Thursday.
