The two-vehicle crash happened shortly after 1:30pm yesterday between Maxwell Station Road and Pukerimu Road.
One person died at the scene, with another transported to hospital in a serious condition.
The road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit examine the scene, diversions remain in place.
