Hawke’s Bay Police have arrested a man and recovered a firearm after it was stolen in a burglary in Napier last week.
Police were alerted to the burglary on Thursday 7 July after entry had been gained to a Milton Road address.
A number of items were reported stolen, including a shotgun.
Yesterday, Police executed a search warrant at a Bisson Place address, and a man was arrested.
Stolen property, including the firearm, was recovered, along with a gang patch.
Detective Senior Sergeant James Keene says Police are pleased to have been able to make a quick arrest.
“We hope this provides reassurance that we are committed to keeping firearms out of the hands of those who do not possess them lawfully.
“We continue to step up enforcement and the disruption of unlawful gang activity across Eastern District as Operation Cobalt rolls out.”
The 43-year-old man is due to appear in Hastings District Court today, charged with burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm.
