As the general election draws closer, the picture of who is backing political parties is becoming clearer.
Donation disclosures over $20,000, which must be made within 20 days of a donation, show ACT has received the biggest donations to date sitting at $1.529 million, with Queenstown tech entrepreneur
Brian Cartmell spreading half a million dollars across National, ACT, NZ First and TOP. Les Mills founder Phillip Mills gave $250,000 to Labour, the Greens and TOP.
Commercial fishing pioneer Sir Peter Vela put $150,000 towards NZ First, while Zuru toy magnate Nick Mowbray gave $200,000 to ACT. GMP Environmental, with petroleum interests, features as one of ACT’s significant corporate donors giving $300,000. Read more at RNZ and Electoral Commission.
