Food Standards Australia and New Zealand issue urgent recall of Uncle Frog’s Mushroom Gummies after hospitalisations

A recall notice has been issued by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand for Uncle Frog’s mushroom gummies following reports of severe reactions.

Perth resident Laura Jones told the ABC she experienced alarming symptoms, including a rapid heart rate and memory loss, within an hour of consuming the product, leading to hospitalisation. Similar cases have been reported nationwide, prompting authorities in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria to issue warnings and advise consumers to avoid the gummies. The recall highlights the dangers posed by unapproved novel ingredients in the gummies, which have led to symptoms such as vomiting, seizures, hallucinations, and heightened anxiety.

The recall and subsequent ABC investigation has revealed major issues within the production and distribution of Uncle Frog’s gummies. The products were primarily marketed on Facebook.

Company director Rohan Bandil claimed the product was safe if consumed as directed but admitted to ceasing operations after learning of the adverse effects. Despite assurances from the company that the gummies contained no THC or CBD, some customers reported positive drug test results for THC, raising suspicions about the product’s true contents.

Authorities urge anyone in possession of the gummies to dispose of them safely and seek medical advice if experiencing symptoms.
