Former National MP Harete Hipango has officially joined New Zealand First, praising the party’s “boldness” and leadership as Winston Peters opened its annual conference in Palmerston North with sharp criticism of both coalition partners and Labour.
Peters used his keynote speech to attack politicians across the spectrum for over-promising economic recovery, while setting the stage for the party’s longest remit session yet, where members will debate proposals including scrapping the Waitangi Tribunal, adopting nuclear power, and reassessing New Zealand’s Paris Accord commitments.
Hipango said she valued NZ First’s willingness to “call it for what it is” and connect with everyday New Zealanders. The conference, with 280 attendees ranging in age from 16 to 91, signals Peters’ ambitions for what he called a “major massive political victory” in 2026.

Recycling politicians from other mainstream parties, thanks for reminding me why I stopped voting for you NZF.
Waitangi Tribunal, nuclear power, New Zealand’s Paris Accord commitments?
What about mass migration and remigration?
NZF is looking too Brown for what white nationalists really want.
