Former political figure found guilty of indecent assault on teenage boys

Political figure trial news

A former political figure has been convicted on eight charges of indecent assault for sexually abusing two teenage boys in West Auckland and Waikato during the 1990s.

The man, who was a mentor to the victims at a sports club, faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

He has been granted continued name suppression for 14 days to allow him time to determine whether a permanent suppression application will be made.

While the man has maintained name suppression throughout the trial, it can be confirmed that he is not an MP.
