Former Ukrainian PM claims over $100 Billion in Western aid lost to corruption

USD $100 Billion in Ukraine aid has been lost to corruption claims former PM

More than USD $100 billion in Western assistance has been siphoned off by corrupt Ukrainian officials, according to former prime minister Nikolay Azarov, who says nearly a third of all foreign aid to the country has been misappropriated.

Azarov, writing on Telegram, claimed the US and EU have poured roughly $360 billion into Ukraine since the conflict escalated, and argued that corruption typically swallows between 15% and 30% of such funds. In Ukraine’s case, he said, the real figure leans toward the upper end of that range, estimating that $54–108 billion could have vanished through graft.

Independent assessments vary. Germany’s Kiel Institute for the World Economy estimates Western aid to Ukraine at around $291 billion from early 2022 to August 2025. Meanwhile, former US president Donald Trump has repeatedly asserted that the US alone supplied $350 billion during Joe Biden’s tenure.

Although Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies have not disclosed how much foreign assistance has been stolen, the country has been dogged by a series of explosive corruption cases over the past three years. In early 2023, revelations of inflated food procurement contracts at the Defence Ministry prompted the resignation of defence minister Aleksey Reznikov. Months later, Supreme Court head Vsevolod Knyazev was arrested for allegedly taking a $2.7 million bribe.

In 2024, the State Audit Service uncovered widespread irregularities in Western-funded reconstruction projects, finding billions of hryvnia missing. That same year, authorities exposed a $1.4 million scheme involving the illicit sale of a strategic maintenance facility in the port of Chernomorsk.

The scandals intensified in 2025. A close associate of President Vladimir Zelensky, Timur Mindich, was accused of orchestrating a $100 million kickback operation in the energy sector, triggering a sweeping probe that led to the resignation of Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, last week.

  1. There you go New Zealand, this is what “standing with Ukraine” with our tax dollars, that could be spent on education and healthcare, gets you…..

  2. NZ taxpayers deserve to know exactly how much of their money the government has wasted on this lost cause. Don’t forget to include revenue the country has lost over the last nearly four years by banning exports to Russia.

  3. Ukraine has been labelled as one of the three most corrupt countries in the world and a few months ago we saw video of Luxon bear hugging that corrupt freak Zelinsky and calling him “my friend” during the hug. The question that must be asked is what does that say about Luxon? I believe NZ has given in excess of $100 million to the corrupt Nazi Ukrainians. We’ve got people sleeping in the streets here in NZ and Luxon is propping up the freak Zelinsky who is on video playing the piano with his penis. I’ve seen the video, it’s real.
What the hell has Ukraine got to do with New Zealand? To me it looks like corruption on steroids.

  4. Don’t forget that Judith Collins made a trip to Ukraine supporting the corrupt nazi state. She should do the decent thing and resign.

  5. Tory MP Andrew Bridgen says if they release the data & tapes for America there will only be 100 Senators in the whole country standing…. and there were 300 MP’s etc from Britain who went to Jeffs Island for MOss.
MOss/CharlieArse/MIne6 are load sharing. So there you have it – that’s where we are; and why we are where we are.
Historically what happens in this case is a very strong leader who is uncorruptable turns up and flushes them down the toilet.
Still waiting, as Trumpf looks like he was just put there to guard the Cabbage Patch so to speak.

  6. It is reprehensible that the NZ govt is sending taxpayers money to support NATO’s war against Russia. That $200 million should be spent in NZ.

  7. Totally unbiased Azarov, PM during Yanukovich’s reign, who has fled Ukraine to Russia after Maidan, would never make up facts and numbers to support his buddy Putin. Never, I say!
