France has banned a “remigration” conference that was to be held near Paris and expelled Austrian activist and keynote speaker Martin Sellner.

About 800 people were expected to attend the conference. Police stopped Sellner as he got off his plane at Beauvais Airport, returning him to Austria the next day.

France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nunez requested the ban based on allegations that Sellner held a “xenophobic and racist” ideology.

Despite the ban, the conference went ahead as a livestream on Saturday.
