France to deploy troops and air defences to Saudi Arabia

France will send military personnel, radar equipment and air-defence systems to Saudi Arabia to help protect the strategic Red Sea oil hub of Yanbu amid escalating missile and drone attacks by Yemen’s Houthis, President Emmanuel Macron has announced.

Macron said French forces would have a defensive role and would not participate directly in the fighting.

The move follows Saudi claims that six ballistic missiles targeting Taif and Yanbu were intercepted, while the Houthis said they had struck several “sensitive” Saudi targets, including Aramco infrastructure.

Yanbu has assumed greater importance for Saudi oil exports as disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has placed pressure on traditional Gulf shipping routes. Riyadh has sought additional military assistance from several countries as its air-defence resources come under strain, with Britain already committing an RAF Voyager tanker and Pakistan pledging support under its defence relationship with the kingdom.

The escalation comes as Houthi forces make territorial gains along Yemen’s Red Sea coast and intensify attacks on Saudi infrastructure and shipping, increasing pressure on both the kingdom’s Gulf and Red Sea export corridors.

  1. More air defense systems about to be proven impotent ineffective and outclassed
More French Military adventurism and folly
France has supplied ground-to-air (surface-to-air) missile systems to Ukraine primarily the SAMP/T and Crotale NG systems along with their respective interceptor missiles
Amounts to little more than an futile propaganda exercise in the face of advanced Houthi ballistic missile and drone technology capabilities
Frances military is in a very dilapidated and run down state of condition

  2. Stump and Bennie kicked the hornets nest in Iran and now Iran’s regional allies have risen up in support but also to seize the opportunity to pursue their own ends. The pitiful Frogs and Poms support amounts to very little but then they are very little. Weak military’s filled with second rate troops, who have minuscule experience of war.
