U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has accused European NATO allies of trying to drag Washington into a direct conflict with Russia, claiming false media coverage by Reuters is helping fuel war hysteria that undermines President Donald Trump’s efforts to broker peace in Ukraine.
Responding to a Reuters report citing “unnamed intelligence-linked sources” who alleged President Vladimir Putin aims to seize all of Ukraine and reclaim parts of Europe, Gabbard said the claims were false and designed to prolong the conflict.
She argued that US intelligence assessments indicate Russia is seeking to avoid a broader war with NATO and lacks the capability to fight one even if it wanted to.
Moscow has repeatedly rejected assertions that it plans to attack EU states, with Putin dismissing such claims as “lies and nonsense” used to justify increased military spending by globalists.
The Kremlin maintains the Ukraine conflict is defensive in nature and has accused NATO and the EU of escalating tensions and obstructing peace initiatives.
Gabbard’s comments were welcomed in Moscow, with Putin envoy Kirill Dmitriev praising her for challenging what he described as a Western “warmonger machinery” and calling for a return to diplomacy and stability.
